4 Common Personality Interview Questions to Prepare for

Is a job interview a science or an art?

Whether initial or final, a job interview, by nature, can be nerve-wracking. A successful job interview must serve its purpose for both the interviewer and the interviewee. For the former, it must professionally and accurately assess the applicant’s compatibility with the job role through, apart from the applicant’s qualifications, how he answered the questions. In contrast, the latter should sell himself enough to make a positive impression.

Interview questions range from common ones to challenging ones. Surely, one way or another, we have been asked various questions such as experience verification questions, opinion questions, even behavioral questions, and others. While each type of question may not necessarily be equally crucial, each one should be answered relevantly and honestly to secure the post.

Personality or behavioral questions are non-technical questions that can ascertain one’s compatibility with the role. On this blog, let us dig into 5 common personality interview questions you should be prepared to answer anytime.

  • What do you do in your spare time?

This might sound like a strange and straightforward question to be asked in a job interview. Yet, whether you are an entry-level job seeker or a seasoned professional, it is great to prepare for a relevant answer that can show both your cultural fit and skills crucial for the role.

  • Talk about a stressful situation and how you handled it. How do you handle stress and pressure?

Knowing how an applicant handles challenges that occur in any part of one’s life is potentially valuable for the hiring managers in choosing the person to hire. In answering this question, make sure to highlight your capability to handle pressure and how you deal with it.

  • Tell me about a time you managed several responsibilities and how you handled them.

A job requires more than one task. Hence, interviewers would be inclined more toward those who can juggle several tasks or projects. Remember, in answering this question, it is vital to be clear and precise with the previous responsibilities you handled altogether to add more value to your qualifications.

  • Describe a time you were able to be creative with your work.

Creativity is a necessity for any job role. Creativity helps an employee develop a solution when a particular problem arises. Hence, in providing an instance that you have been creative at work, you are convincing the hiring manager that you are reliable enough to invent and innovate a solution that benefits the company.

Indeed, hiring managers do not expect a black or white answer to the abovementioned questions. Applicants may use these questions as opportunities to demonstrate their soft skills and provide the interviewer with insights about them that can contribute to the success of the job interview.
